How many times have you walked into a restaurant, cafe, or even an auto-repair shop, and thought to yourself:
“If someone came in here and started blazing, where would the best place to sit be?”
Think of the Luby’s Cafe massacre of Kileen Texas.
(Here’s the Wikipedia article on it if you’re interested.)
A mad-man drove his truck through the front window of a cafe, and began shooting the disarmed, innocent people inside.
You never expect something like this to happen, but it does. Very rarely, but it happens, and it could be any one of us.
If it does, there are a lot of things that will need to happen in order to get you (and your loved ones) out of there alive… but it ALL begins with where you sit.
“Back to the wall, facing the door”. I’ve heard that a lot, but truthfully, it’s a lot more confusing than that.
Well, USCCA forum moderator and resident war scholar thinks so to- and when he talks, we listen.
Here is a 6 minute tip all about this dilemma. Thank you CR Williams for making it for the USCCA member’s to watch.

This video illustrated some very valuable information. I have had my CWP in Louisiana for over 10 years. I am VERY conscious of the placement of my seating in a restaurant. I believe I will look at my seating choices a bit differently after viewing the video. Thanks for providing very real world information and please keep it coming.

I have been getting stuff from you for a long time now I try to view this video and get nothing. Though I was a member??
3:12 pm
I guess this restricts you to restaurants that aren’t buzy and you have a choice of seats…
3:15 pm
I hope I am the only one who cannot stand to watch these videos. During the whole video, it is loading while he is talking. At least I think he is talking. I just have to shut it off and go on. When I pause it, the loading also pauses. To bad for me as I really wanted to watch these. This happens all the time with USCCA videos. Seem like Tim and company should get on top of this and fix it once and for all.
3:27 pm
I think another consideration is to be seated where you can escape. Engagement with say a group of 3-4 bad guys all wielding firearms means that if you engage them, you are probably going to die
3:28 pm
I am with the rest of the folks who have trouble with the videos from USCCA. Waiting for the down load and it never comes across. I use WildBlue Sat., and had hopes with the change it would have gotten better. Not knocking USCCA, because most things are top notch. May just be some tech adjustments to correct.

This video like almost all others in the field of self defense tactics shows just a glimmer of what someones mindset should/could be open to. The possiblities are almost endless. Instead of what could happen if in a situation, how about some basic ways to find a location in the establishment entered that would provide some sort of suitable cover. Take senerios from previous trajic events and build from there.
PS I have never had video problems as others have stated. WHAT was the knife he used in the video (49sec) into video?? thanks gwadle1
3:57 pm
I listened for awhile but he kept repeating over and over the same thing. I turned it off. Sorry, but that’s what I did.

About the video download: It will be a couple of weeks, but I am given to understand that a change in format will allow for a low-bandwidth option that might actually work for me as well; I have the same issues with the streaming and buffering.
jh: It restricts it if you want it to, I suppose. I offer options when you have options. Sometimes, for one reason or another, you don’t have options. You go with what you’ve got, whether what you’ve got is because of your choice or circumstances you can’t control.
Greg W: I can’t really advise about where to find cover because the places are all different with different furniture and fixtures and arrangements. I can try and suggest some principles, but that’s about it.
The knife is a Cold Steel Triple Action.
2nd part expands to larger areas and ad-hoc security groups. After that, I’ll start on some skill sets that I believe to be useful.
4:03 pm
I had the same trouble withe video and never was ableto see it.
4:05 pm
Is this site MAC freindly?
4:07 pm
I’m with those who have trouble with the loading of these videos. I have no trouble with most, just those from this site. Comments?
4:11 pm
I could not load the video either. My thought on seating in restaurants is I usually want to be able to see my vehhicle. The chance of theft from my vehicle is a more possible problem than a altercation in the restaurant. If one location can do both, great.
4:23 pm
i cannot view the videos. i guess my computer is not fast enough for streaming video. the format will not allow me to download the content for a few minutes and then view it like i can a u-tube. can you guys change the format so we can all participate or let me know what im doing wrong
4:35 pm
I have no problem with the video, but the audio is very choppy, causing difficulty with comprehension. I would welcome any suggestions.
4:38 pm
I can’t view the videos either. I would like to see them have a page where we can download them and then view them without having to worry if our bandwidth is OK. JFPO has almost all of their videos available for download. This download feature would make it easier to pass on this valuable information to friends and family.
4:39 pm
I like to sit near the exit,so if I have to I can get out of Dodge.
I also could not see the video.
5:01 pm
I haven’t had any trouble viewing the videos. When I go into a restaurant I generally look for a place that provides both a good view of the entrance and something to use as cover/concealment if it ever becomes necessary. If it happens to be near an exit, preferably and emergency exit that can not be used as an entrance, that’s a plus, especially if there is someone with me than I need to protect.
5:05 pm
I could not see the video either,so I called customer service and found out you can be a website (free)member .
But for this its PAY TO PLAY MEMBERSHIP.
So…..Tell me again why they send me this crap in my email when they know dam well I am a free member ? ( and they want to talk guns ! ? )
5:17 pm
I tried in vain to watch these C.R. Williams videos, but they never ran for me. They kept starting and stopping every 2 or 3 seconds while they were trying to download. Best I could do was to read the info under the videos.
5:22 pm
I’ve had my Glock 27 for 3 months and have really learned a lot from your videos.
I have a Mac and have no problem seeing the videos at all, so keep them coming!
Thanks Tim!
5:36 pm
it will not load so is a usless facit of being a member
5:37 pm
Thanks for the great video with C. R. Williams. I always enjoy getting your email messages or viseos, helps me stay alert.
5:55 pm
I thought the videos were good. It gives you information to think about. As far as problems with the videos, I have never had a problem with USCCA videos. I am running Windows XP using Mozzila on high speed internet. Please make some more videos.
6:16 pm
Good idea - seemed somewhat repetitious, but this is a small quibble for some valuable information. I usually look for a seat facing the door, wall if possible, but have rarely sought out other exits, nor considered concealment issues. Will do so in future.
Thought the video showing pushups was an annoying waste of time. Take care of your exercising on your own time.
6:19 pm
I too have trouble viewing this video. There needs to be the change so that when you pause it, the stream keeps coming, just like youtube. Then you can let the data flow exceed your usage rate. My connection is 3gb DSL, but many times it is running at 1 to 1.5GB. At this rate the video usage rate exceeds the download rate. I would love to see these videos in their completeness, but I too can not watch the stop and go.
6:38 pm
I couldn’t understand any of the audio–all chopped up. Prolly me but I don’t take anything forgranted. Ya need to do something to these. The subject matter is something I’d like to hear/see.
6:52 pm
I use Suddenlink cable internet service with 1Meg transmission. I have never had
a problem with video transmission. I could not watch your video. The sound was very broken up.
7:22 pm
I have DSL through AT&T and couldn’t watch any of the video. Many formats that take a while to load will do so if you start the video and then pause it. It continues to load until it has completed, then you click play again and can watch the whole thing. Not this one.
7:43 pm
Tim,
Just wanted you to know that I attempted to open the video on my iphone since I was mobile, but it will not allow me to use Adobe…so when I got home I went to my desktop to take a look, and got some funky message that the site was locked for 24 hours because someone “me” had logged on earlier. As a member, I am more than disgusted at the “security” that your site is using…Why not let everyone see these videos…I think it would encourage greater membership. This is not the first time this has happened to me, but it may be the last because I have better things to do than waste time trying to view something that should be automatic when I open the email. I appreciate your emails, but I am not impressed with the hoops required to view the videos…Streamline this please or I am out of here at renewal time.
7:46 pm
Interesting video, but usually you don’t have a choice of seating in a crowded restaurant. Also in most restaurants there is no way you can keep your eye on the other patrons hands. In today’s situations I don’t really see much practical advice here.
8:30 pm
To view these videos, you need to be sure you have the correct CODECs installed. Google for the K-Lite Codec Pack (FREE), make sure you SCAN with anti-virus (false positives ARE possible), then install. If you ONLY have Windows Media Player, you can probably forget it! There are many FREE video players out there, as well as the usual Nero, EZ-Player, etc.
Second - you WILL need a high speed internet connection. If you are trying to watch this over dial-up, and maybe some satellite connections - you are probably SOL. Typical video codecs might include X-Vid and DivX. You will need Audio Codecs such as MP2, MP3, AAC, AC3, and MP4 among others.
About CR - - many things to THINK about, but no real recommendations.
Kel-Tec Sub-2000 looks like a blast - - how is it in dirty environments - ie survival?

I DO SOME OF IT NOW. BUT THIS IS GREAT, REALLY MAKES YOU THINK. I HAVE FRIENDS WHO ARE POLICE I GET TIPS FROM ALSO. BUT IT COULD MAKE A DIFFERENCE WHEN IT’S DOWN TO THE WIRE. LYN GOOD JOB!!!
9:26 pm
I’m sorry the way the streaming worked only resulted in garbled words.
10:21 pm
He brought out some food for thought.
I will keep in mind what he said on this video the next time I;m out with my wife at an eating establishment.
12:09 am
Very poor quality unable to understand
anything being said. A waste of time trying to watch
12:52 am
Lots of good info.I know alot of us dont even think of these things,I know I didn’t,untill I started carrying a handgun.I always try to be aware of my surroundings. When Im in a place were im seated I like to be able to see people comming in.But I don’t like to be to close to the door and if possible try to have some kind of cover between me and the door.
1:30 am
Very good information, i try to put myself and my family in as a strategic place as possible if were not led to a table. If so ill make the best of it and just keep my intuition active. Again your insight was great. Thankyou very much.
5:28 am
I think it had great information that I will use, keep them coming.
7:05 am
Tim -I tried to view the video of Where is the best place to sit but it was all garbled (both of them). Don’t know if it is a problem with my computer or the video. Maybe if you send it again it would work. Thanks
7:30 am
Tim, some of us learned a similar lesson from military service and/or law enforcement experience. This is a great video for those who have neither and wish to protect themselves and their loved ones. Makes membership worthwhile once again.
8:51 am
Tim: All Video’s are garbled words… This happens all the time when I’m up on your site.
Wish it would work.

I have the same problem as a few others. Video’s come in garbled. Seating is an important subject so maybe there should be some text to go along with the video’s.
12:15 pm
I too have problems with the video jumping around, however playing it the second time eliminates most of the problems. Good information..I have been carrying 6 months, and find myself watching everyone that comes with in the 21 foot bubble. The seating arrangment info is very helpful. Keep the info coming. Thanks, Dave Newark Ohio
12:49 pm
“Great Job” on all of the video’s. I found them tremendously informative. Keep up the good work!
1:15 pm
Why don’t you just put it on UTUBE so all can see it?
4:07 pm
very poor quility,,you need to put it in another format so it down loads better
11:22 pm
WHEN I TRIED TO WATCH IT FROM MY LAPTOP, IT WAS SHAKY. AT HOME ON THE DESKTOP COMP. IT WAS FINE.
BEING A RETIRED POLICE OFFICER, I OFTEN TOOK THE WALL FACING THE DOOR SCENARIO.
YOUR VIDEO TAUGHT EVEN AN OLD DOG A NEW TRICK (& WAY OF LOOKING AT THINGS).
THANKS
4:15 am
